Olive Tree Restaurant
For most people, holidays are a relaxing time: a time to dress more casually in shorts, t-shirts and sandals – not just on the beach, but when going out to dinner too. Whilst this is accepted practice at most restaurants, it is not at The Olive Tree, Moraira. This is where The Olive Tree stands apart from other Teulada Moraira restaurants: smart casual dress is required and this is just how the customers like it. For the ladies: a chance to leave their sarongs and their wraps at the hotel and bring a little glamour to their holiday, and a chance to get their men out of their shorts and Crocs and into a pair of smart trousers and a shirt.
The Olive Tree is a genuine highlight of any holiday to Teulada Moraira. It is located in a typical building, just outside of the centre of Moraira on the road to Calpe.
Ascending a couple of steps onto a small terrace, you will go through the smart, polished wooden front door from the warm mediterranean weather and into a cool air-conditioned restaurant, decorated in a simple but modern mix of British and Spanish styles with terracotta floor tiles and chunky dark wood furniture. The walls are adorned with simple paintings and wall-hangings whilst the windows are dressed with simple linen curtains that sway in the breeze. Running the length of the restaurant is a deep wooden bar area, behind which is an impressive display of wines from around the world – let the expert sommelier guide through the selection to select a quality wine to complement your meal.
Upon entering the restaurant, you will be greeted by a friendly hostess who will guide you to one of their small intimate tables. Dressed in the finest white linen, bathed in warm candlelight and adorned with beautiful fresh flowers, your table will provide the perfect setting for what will be the perfect evening. Your hostess will take your order for drinks while you look at the carefully considered menus that are, cleverly, not expansive, but are balanced and cater for all tastes.
Typical starters might include Thai fish-cakes served with a sweet chili dip, warm Cajun-spiced strips of chicken set on a roasted cherry tomato and onion salad or roasted red onion tart served with crumbled goat’s cheese and salad. They are all superbly presented and delicious.
Main courses can include fillet steak, grilled liver with bacon and mash, oven-roasted cod with mussels and garlic. All served with fresh, al dente vegetables and sautéed potatoes.
Puddings might be lemon sorbet with vodka, or a variety of cheeses served with a peach chutney.
You will need to book in advance, so it is worth calling in at the start of your holiday and securing a table.
The Olive Tree is a great setting for a genuinely, excellent night out. Just don’t forget to pack your smart clothes!
