Teulada Moraira
'The Jewel in the Costa Blanca Crown'Teulada Costa Blanca
Teulada is an old town on the Costa Blanca. Located six kilometres from the coast between Javea and Calpe, it is the administrative centre of Teulada Moraira.
Where Moraira provides the visitor with a trendy, cosmopolitan atmosphere; where top quality bars and restaurants vie for the tourists attention with fashionable boutiques and expensive jewellery shops, Teulada offers a quieter, calmer atmosphere: a window into the past. With narrow, cobbled streets lined with 30 foot palm trees and tall townhouses all painted in various autumnal shades, and churches where the bells ring on the hour to town squares filled with the noise of a lively community, shading under olive trees, Teulada draws tourists from around the globe, all keen to visit this little old town.
Visitors to Teulada enjoy walks in the countryside and explore the vineyards that intersperse the plantations of almond and orange trees, peppered with pine trees that give off the most wonderful aroma, which combined with lavender, create a sense of real tranquility.
Teulada, like many other towns along this stretch of the Costa Blanca, enjoys a wide and varied diet. Taking inspiration from the mountains and countryside, as well as the sea, the local cuisine is excellent. Rice provides the basis for many fine variations on Paella. A local delicacy is Paella Arros Negre – a paella made with inky, black rice. In addition to the paella dishes, Teulada has an endless number of top quality seafood dishes.
Teulada has some historical monuments. The most famous of which is the beautiful 15th century gothic church of Patron Saint Catherine the Martyr.
Others include the quaint Moraira Castle.
As well as tourism, Teulada’s other primary industry is grape cultivation. The farmers of Teulada cultivate raisins, dessert grapes and the famous, award-winning Muscatel grapes. The local San Vicente Ferrer Cooperative makes the excellent sweet Muscatel dessert wine and the Villa Teulada white wines.
